Dear Friends,

Welcome to The New England Thoroughbred Retirement Center. Our purpose is simply to provide excellent care to Thoroughbred horses.

We work directly with professional horsemen, owners and breeders at racecourses and training centers across the United States to ensure that Thoroughbred horses no longer fit for competition on the racecourse are provided with first-rate care for the rest of their lives. Each of our Thoroughbreds is stabled and rehabilited at our own Watchtower Farm in Deerfield, New Hampshire.

We’ve retrained and re-homed a wonderful variety of horses that includes Thoroughbreds from Kentucky, Florida, New York, California, England, Ireland and Brazil.

Every one of our Thoroughbreds begins its retirement at Watchtower Farm, enjoying the security of large, 12x14 box-stalls at night and is turned-out on pasture every day. Our volunteer staff works hard to ensure each horse receives the very best of care. We proudly maintain a selection of retired Thoroughbreds available for conditional-sale, lease and sponsorship that includes re-trained, Thoroughbred riding-horses and excellent sport-horse prospects.

Our re-homing program is unlike any other in New England. Watchtower Farm is a facility where potential owners are invited to tour the farm, visit with our Thoroughbreds and evaluate horses in a quiet setting before making a selection. We invite guests to bring a veterinarian to perform an evaluation of any of our Thoroughbreds. Because they’ve all been away from the racecourse and race training for at least several months before being made available for re-homing, the move to a new home is much easier  and comes with fewer surprises. To be sure you and your new Thoroughbred are a good match, we accommodate on-farm leasing. If the horse you select doesn’t turn out to be the right one for you, every Thoroughbred that leaves Watchtower Farm can always be returned for lifetime retirement.

As you peruse our website, you’ll notice we sometimes honour our retired Thoroughbreds with their own webpages; That’s because we believe, regardless of what they’ve accomplished on the racecourse, in retirement every Thoroughbred is a noble champion. Come for a visit, take a tour and see what retirement should be like for all Thoroughbreds.

If you can’t take one home, please consider making a tax-deductible donation to support our program.

Best Regards,
